Introducing the new Airstream BaseCamp — Blending the convenience of RV travel with the versatility of car camping, Airstream has partnered with Nissan Design America and Kelty to create BaseCamp, a microlight tent-trailer hybrid.
Unique product innovation provides a first-in-market tent extension developed by Kelty, attached to a striking new trailer design as only Airstream and Nissan Design America could develop. Strong, lightweight and expandable, BaseCamp can be personalized to support any outdoor pursuit. BaseCamp is built as an authentic Airstream, offering a rugged new generation of Airstreamers the ability to participate in the Airstream way of life - with additional versatility, durability and comfort. See More, Do More, and Live More than ever before!
Rugged enough for year-round adventures, versatile enough to reflect an owner’s specific needs: the easy customization and expandability of BaseCamp makes it truly unique. BaseCamp’s futuristic appearance is created with an all-aluminum exterior skin, tinted wrap-around windows, and saloon-style rear doors. The Kelty tent extends from the rear of the trailer and provides spacious additional living space and weather protection. The sleek, aerodynamic look of BaseCamp echoes the classic Airstream shape and the modern, stylish Nissan Xterra.
The BaseCamp interior can be configured as a workshop, camper or home office with options such as furniture, cabinetry, appliances, and even the proverbial kitchen sink with a detachable water tank. For versatility, durability and comfort, Airstream’s BaseCamp presents an entirely new way to travel light.
This stylish trailer, designed to be both low cost and flexible, was the brainchild of NDA aces Bryan Thompson and Steve Moneypenny, who envisioned a travel vehicle that was a springboard for outdoor adventures rather than a living room on wheels.
The BaseCamp pays homage to Airstream’s past, taking styling and content cues from the original “Torpedo” concept developed by company founder Wally Byam in the 1930’s. The attached tent extension, engineered by outdoor products giant Kelty, provides a lightweight way to double the available living space.
Ultra-light: most conventional vehicles, with a 2,000 lb gross weight, when fully loaded, can tow Airstream’s BaseCamp.
Aggressive styling: 20” wheels, wrap-around windows, low profile stance, and Airstream’s trademark aluminum skin give BaseCamp a look like nothing else on the street.
Just the basics: keeping the weight and price tag down for your outdoor adventures.
